  8. Welcome to LogiCat!  LogiCat was designed to allow you to easily catalog
  9. your disks.  LogiCat is the first step in bringing you a set of disk
  10. tracking utilities that go beyond anything published to date.  I'm sure
  11. you'll enjoy the power that LogiCat brings you; finally an advance in
  12. disk cataloging technology is available!

  15. [------------- N O T I C E ! ! ! --------------]
  16.  
  17. The file formats for the configuration and import files HAS CHANGED.  A
  18. utility is available for registered users that will convert the older
  19. version configuration and import files, but if you're "testing" LogiCat
  20. before registering you'll need to erase any old configuration files and
  21. create them over.  Note that the data base format is still the same as it
  22. was in older versions, only the configuration and import setting files have
  23. changed.

  27. [-------- CHANGES IN THE DOCUMENTATION --------]

  29. Since LogiCat was introduced there have been several changes in LogiCat
  30. that aren't yet included in the documentation.  The following summarizes
  31. additions to the manual:
  32.  
  33. 1)  On the Add menu and the Delete/replace menu a new item has been added
  34.     that provides "multi-drive" support.  By choosing the multi-drive item
  35.     you're allowed to log/replace files from any number of different drives
  36.     in any order you specify.  The disadvantage to logging files in this
  37.     manner is that you must type the drive letter and press return for 
  38.     each disk you log/replace.  This feature is mainly useful for Sysops
  39.     who desire to log multiple hard drives.
  40.  
  41.     Note that the other menu options that are documented in the manual
  42.     still work as specified.
  43.  
  44. 2)  A hard disk is REQUIRED, not just recommended as the documentation
  45.     indicates.
  46.  
  47. 3)  When you replace a disk, LogiCat has to keep both disks in memory
  48.     temporarily so it can copy the comments for existing files to the 
  49.     new disk.  If you don't have enough files configured (and LogiCat
  50.     can't automatically increase them), the disk will not be able to 
  51.     be replaced properly.  LogiCat will keep the files that it can, 
  52.     but once it runs out of memory, it will not pick up the rest of 
  53.     the files from the disk.  Note that a warning message is displayed
  54.     if this happens.

  56. 4)  Several new options have been added.  The options for expanding an 
  57.     archive, and extracting ARCHIVE comments have been modified to go from
  58.     the previous Yes/No toggle to have a third option:  ASK.  If you set 
  59.     the associated option to ASK, LogiCat will prompt before expanding an
  60.     archive allowing you to selectively expand archives.

  62.     An option has been added that allows you to have LogiCat prompt if
  63.     the report output should go to the screen or the configured report
  64.     destination at report time.  When set to YES LogiCat will prompt
  65.     you whether you want the report to go to the screen or not.  If you
  66.     say 'N' LogiCat will send the file to the report destination regardless
  67.     of the printer name used.

  69.     An option has been added to the 'Report Options' that allows you to 
  70.     specify whether or not double spacing is to be used.

  72.     An option has been added to the import utility that allows you to
  73.     specify whether or not LogiCat should ignore extensions when importing
  74.     comments.  When set to 'NO' LogiCat will ignore the extension of files
  75.     that are configured as libraries when it imports the comments.

  77. 5)  When LogiCat prompts for a disk name (other than the selection criteria
  78.     prompts) you can leave the field empty (press return without typing
  79.     anything) to cause LogiCat to present you with a popup list of the
  80.     disk names that are currently in memory.  Using the cursor keys, typing
  81.     the name you desire, using home/end, etc. you can highlight the name you
  82.     desire to work with and press return to select the highlighted name.
